It’s Skin Cancer Awareness Month! Trumbull, CT

May 10, 2019

Achieving gorgeous skin is our business, and underlying every radiant complexion is healthy skin. You simply can’t have a luminous glow without health!

In honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, we’d like to boost your skin health with a few easy tips from the Skin Cancer Foundation.

1. Wear sunscreen daily

This is not optional. Applying sunscreen every day of the year is your first and foremost line of defense against skin cancer. Most cases of skin cancer are caused by exposure to UV rays, which means you have a lot more control than you think! You can dramatically decrease your risk simply by protecting your skin from the sun with daily sunscreen application. It’s truly that simple

2. Get to know your skin

Have you always had that mole? Was that freckle there last year? Being familiar with the normal variations in your skin will help you to better spot the irregularities that promptly need a doctor’s attention. Be on the lookout for the ABCDE’s of skin cancer:

A is for an Asymmetrical mole

B is for a Border without clean lines

C is for Color that is varied—irregular moles are multi-colored, i.e., red, brown, and black

D is for a Diameter that is larger than the eraser on a pencil tip

E is for Evolution—healthy moles do not change in shape, size or elevation

3. Go for a skin cancer screening

Once a year, see your dermatologist or primary care physician for a routine skin cancer screening. The earlier skin cancer is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat! Early detection can save your life!

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in America, affecting 1 in 5 adults by age 70. Fortunately, skin cancer is also one of the most preventable cancers!
